Welcome to Capitol Knesset

The Capitol Knesset welcomes you to the Jewish community in and around the Capitol!

During a meeting with then-Assemblymember Marty Block regarding issues of concern to the Jewish community, a Capitol staffer suggested that regular gatherings of the Capitol Jewish community might be productive. Subsequent meetings and discussions led to the formation of a "Capitol Knesset," a gathering of people within the Capitol community that will offer a chance for informal discussion and interaction among Jewish legislators, staff and others in and around the Capitol.

In Israel the Legislature, or General Assembly, is named after Anshei Knesset HaGedolah, and it convened in Jerusalem in the fifth century B.C.E. Traditionally a home to vigorous debate and learned discussion on critical issues of the day, the Great Assembly was also a place for easy camaraderie and informal celebration.

The Capitol Knesset will give Jewish legislators, staff, colleagues and friends the chance to engage in the exchange of ideas and social interaction. We will gather for political and social purposes, not religious practice. Although conceived primarily to support the Jewish community in the Capitol, all will be welcome to participate.

We would like to invite you to attend our meetings and a schedule can be found by clicking the Calendar/Events link. We look forward to seeing you.

Thank you,

Senator Block & Ryan Pessah
